It’s a hard week in the #FHK House. Technically, we’re not even supposed to have the kids this week but, in a multi-household family, it’s important that we support everyone around our brood.
Patrick, Sadie, and Brody’s grandpa is dealing with a very serious illness which required that their dad travel back to Massachusetts in short order. So we received them back home a few days ahead of schedule. There’s a lot of sadness inside of them as they’re dealing with the potential loss of their Papa who lives on Cape Cod.
On top of everything else the kids have going on in there lives, they’re now also dealing with the sadness that comes along with the loss of their dear grandpa.
We’re trying to help them to recognize where their feelings are coming from and, of course, there are tons of hugs (even more than usual) to help them feel they’re loved and that things will be okay. We’re also trying to help them process these huge feelings by crying and talking. Sometimes their feelings come out like goop all over the kid next to them. For instance, Sadie snapped at Brody over Maple syrup this morning. I put my hand on her back and in a very soft voice said, “This isn’t really about Maple syrup is it honey?” Her response was instant and silent tears streaming down her little flushed cheeks. After lots of hugs and a few tissues, we were off for a Friday full of school and soccer practices.
Now normally, feelings fly around our house like evil monkeys in the Wizard of Oz. Bashing into you when you’re not looking. This week it’s like the triage tent on the battlefield.
Say a little prayer for these three as they deal with such a hard time. While you’re at it, include their father, Michael, and the #FHK home. It’s going to be a hard 10 days for all of us.
